Hardwood:   Here are some guidelines from the NWFA to better help you understand the installation process.

Acclimation: The process of adjusting (conditioning) the moisture content of wood flooring to the environment in which it is expected to perform. There has always been a misconception about this process. If the moisture content in the wood flooring is equal to the MC of the room it will be installed in, then it is acclimated,"there is not always a need to let it set in the room prior to the installation, it has reached the (EMC)."

Equilibrium Moisture Content: The moisture content of wood when in equilibrium with its environment. When wood is neither gaining nor losing moisture, equilibrium moisture content (EMC) has been reached.

Subfloors must be flat:

Make sure the concrete slab or the wood subfloor is flat to the wood flooring manufacturer’s specification. Typically, manufacturers will specify a flatness tolerance of 1/8”in a 6-foot radius and or
3/16” in a 10-foot radius. If the slab or wood subfloor is out of specification, consider grinding, floating or both. Many high spots can be removed by grinding, depressions can be filled with approved patching compounds, and slabs also can be flattened.

Subfloor moisture test should be performed on both concrete and wood substrates:

A wood subfloor can be tested by a pin meter and the readings should be no more than 14%. Most manufactures want the concrete to be tested for moisture emissions. This test is done by ASTM F1869–Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor
using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride and readings typically should be no more than 3 pounds in 1000sf within 24 hours.Wall to Wall Flooring Specialist will not warrant an installation unless these requirements are met.

At Wall to Wall Flooring and Design Center we pride ourselves and have built our reputation on quality workmanship and superior customer service. We offer a life-time warranty on all of our wood flooring installations. All substrates will have to measured for moisture and documented. If moisture levels are higher than the manufactures recommendations, sealers will have to be used in order to get a moisture related warranty. It is up to the end-user to properly clean and maintain the flooring and keep a proper temperature and humidity.
